Tattoo regret ??

As our love for tattoos has grown over the years, so does the need for tattoo removal. Whether it's a tattoo from years ago, or a case of needing to lighten or remove in order to cover or replace, this can be achieved with  laser tattoo removal. It is simple, safe, and produces fantastic results. The advanced technology of our Lynton Lumina (ACTIVE Q Switched Nd:YAG 1064nm & 532nm) laser system works  by allowing the light produced by the laser to pass through the skin and break up the tattoo ink into tiny particles. The body then disposes of these fragments via its immune system.

Before you begin....

If you're thinking of having a tattoo removed, you should be prepared for the potential discomfort and the limitations.

It can be a frustratingly slow process. 10 or more sessions may be needed to remove the tattoo completely (fewer to fade for cover-ups)

However, some tattoos are not entirely removed – it's quite common to have some fragments left in the skin.

The colours used in the tattoo, as well as its size and density, can all affect the suitability of laser removal treatment. 6 - 8  weeks is needed between sessions  to allow time for the skin to heal.

What it involves....

If you have hair on the area of skin to be treated, you’d need to shave before the appointment.

On the day, you will wear specially designed goggles to protect your eyes during the procedure.  A hand-held device is then passed over your skin and the laser is triggered.

Some people say this feels like an elastic band snapping at your skin.

The session usually takes about 5 - 15 minutes, depending on the size of the tattoo.

The tattoo should become progressively lighter with each treatment, but it can be a slow process.

Afterwards....

The skin may be red with a raised rash for a short while afterwards. Holding an ice pack to the skin may help ( try a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a tea towel ). Your skin would also be more sensitive to the sun, so you'd need to avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for at least a week afterwards, and use sunscreen. As treatment sessions progress, the skin may bleed slightly before scabbing over for about a week. It may help to regularly apply aloe vera gel, and apply Vaseline or Jelonet dressing if there is any blistering or scabbing. You should also avoid: Soap or perfumed products on the area for the first 48 hours

Strenuous activities for a couple of days

Swimming and saunas until the scab has dropped off ( as these may delay healing )

Risks....

Some colours may not completely fade.

Yellow, green and purple ink require more energy (more sessions) to fade than black, blue and red.

A small chance your skin may become temporarily darker or paler than the surrounding skin.

A slight chance you’re left with a permanent scar (3 in 100 patients develop a scar)

Please note....

Tattoo removal is not recommended for people with dark skin, a suntan or fake tan. It is not suitable if you’re in the early stages of pregnancy, although there are no known risks for women who are breastfeeding.

Summary....

Prices for laser tattoo removal start from £35 per session. The overall cost will be dependent on the size of the tattoo and the number of sessions required. A treatment quote will be given at consultation.

Permanent Hair Reduction

Living with unwanted hair ??

Unwanted hair, whether facial or body, can be inconvenient and embarrassing. The daily task of removing hair using conventional methods such as shaving and waxing can be time consuming, inconvenient and short term. There are certain medical and hormonal conditions that can lead to excessive hair growth such as polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PSOC). Other reasons for treatment may include transgender change or problems within the hair follicles leading to boils under the skin a condition commonly known as folliculitis barbae.

How it works....

Light is selectively absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle, known as melanin. The light energy is applied to the skin resulting in a heating of the pigment. This effectively destroys the hair follicle without damaging the surrounding cells, resulting in no more growth from the follicle. Most people are suitable for treatment. Best results are often achieved with clients who have fair skin and dark hair. Darker, thicker hair has a better response to treatment as it has a higher concentration of melanin within the hair follicle. Fair hair however, contains less melanin and is harder to treat.

What it involves....

Prior to treatment, the skin is cleaned and protective eyewear is worn. The IPL hand piece is placed over the skin and a short pulse of light is released, which targets many follicles in the treatment area simultaneously. The applicator is then moved to the surrounding areas of skin and the process is repeated until the entire area has been treated. For Intense Pulse Light treatment, a thin layer of gel is applied prior to treatment to help guide the light, but this is not required for the laser procedure. At your consultation, our technician will advise which will be most effective for the best results.

Afterwards....

Once the hair follicles have been damaged by the heat, the hair will remain in the follicles. The dead hair will normally shed after 1-3 weeks as the skin renews itself. During this period, the hairs will seem to ‘grow’ as they are pushed out by the new skin. The skin may be red immediately after treatment and the hair follicles may appear slightly raised or bumpy, this is quite normal and is an indication of a good treatment response. This will usually settle a few hours post treatment. Following treatment in clinic our practitioners will always cool the skin and apply aloe vera to further help reduce any inflammation and soothe the skin. Adverse reactions are rare but may include a small blister, burn or temporary lightening or darkening of the skin.

Timeline....

Treatments can take from as little as 10 minutes up to 2 hours, depending on the size of the treatment area.

Multiple treatments are required for effective hair reduction due to the nature of hair growth.

Hair follicles grow in different stages and it is only when that hair is actively growing that the laser can damage the follicle.

Depending on the face/body area, treatments are recommended every 4-8 weeks. This will be advised at your consultation. On average, a course of 6 treatments are recommended as a minimum, however some patients may require more or less than this to achieve their desired results.

Pricing....

Prices for IPL hair removal start from £30 per session. The overall cost will be dependent on the area to be treated and the number of sessions required. A treatment quote will be given at consultation.

Best Results :6 - 12 treatments

Treatment Time : 15 minutes - 2 hours

IPL Acne Treatment

Why consider IPL Acne Treatment?

This treatment is widely recognised as an effective solution for mild to moderate Inflammatory Acne. It has been shown that the major bacterial cause of Acne, Propionibacterium Acnes can be destroyed by the application of light. The Intense Pulse Light treatments greatly reduce the number of active lesions, lessening the inflammation and frequency of breakouts.

The IPL works within the skin causing no damage, irritation or downtime.

How it works....

If it is active acne (spots and blackheads) we usually have a three staged programme, you may do all the stages or just one or two depending on what grade the acne is. In most cases, we usually treat acne with our award-winning Intense Pulsed Light system: The Lynton LUMINA.

The light emitted from the LUMINA IPL system directly targets overactive sebaceous glands, greatly reducing the total number and severity of active lesions.

Results from IPL Acne Control Treatment

IPL lessens inflammation and occurrence of break-outs.

The light stimulates the production of new collagen to improve skin texture.

Reduces the number and severity of active spots and reduces frequency of breakouts.

Destroys most common bacteria that causes Acne without drugs, pain & downtime.

Clearer smoother skin

& less visible scars.

Afterwards....

After your treatment you need to follow the post treatment advice. Your skin is photo sensitive after being exposed to a laser, so the most important thing to remember is to protect your skin by using a minimum of SPF 30 and not use any harsh chemicals on the treatment area during the course of the treatment.

Dermal Pigments

Why consider Sunspots & Freckle Removal?

Sunspots, age spots or freckles on the face and hands can make you look old.

Sunspots & freckles respond really well with our laser treatment, as the pigment lies in the Epidermis (top layer of the skin). This makes it easy for the laser to reach.

Great if you’re after a more even skin tone. You want to reduce areas of excess freckling. You are concerned with a certain age spot/freckle.

How it works....

We use a combination of Laser & IPL depending on your pigment & skin type.

The light targets the melanin in the pigmented area. It is absorbed by the pigmented lesion and converted to heat, destroying excess melanocytes.

Works best in high contrast situations – the sunspots/freckles will need to be some shades darker than your natural skin colour.

Results from Sunspots & Freckle Removal

Results are impressive with minimal risk of scarring.

See a significant difference after your first treatment.

Most pigmented lesions will be removed.

Skin will be clearer, even-toned and younger looking.

Afterwards....

After your treatment, you need to follow the post treatment advice. Your skin is photosensitive after being exposed to a laser, so the most important thing to remember is to protect your skin by using a minimum of SPF 30 and not use any harsh chemicals on the treatment area during the course of the treatment. Also, the pigment can darken and scab off. This is part of the recovery process.

Use only mineral makeup.

Solutions....

Freckles, sun spots, liver or age spots and other unwanted pigmentation are often associated with skin ageing and sun damage caused by over exposure to the sun or sunbeds. Generally, these pigmentation spots pose no health risk, however they can be unsightly and create a patchy, less youthful appearance.  Freckling and age spots are successfully lightened or removed with either a

Q-Switch Laser or Intense Pulse Light (IPL).

Pricing....

Prices for laser pigment removal start from £50 per session. The overall cost will be dependent on the size of the tattoo and the number of sessions required. A treatment quote will be given at consultation.

Best Results : 2 - 3 treatments

Treatment Time : 15 - 40 minutes

Recovery : 2 - 4 weeks

Anaesthetic : Not required

Red Veins & Rosacea

Why Consider Rosacea Treatment?

Some people just have a few small broken vessels. Around the nose, cheeks and chin are common areas. Whilst others may have a red appearance with episodes of red flushing, this is more likely to be Rosacea, with other symptoms such as burning and stinging sensations, permanent redness spots (papules and pustules), small blood vessels in the skin becoming visible.

Rosacea is a relapsing condition, which means there are periods when symptoms are particularly bad, followed by periods when the condition is less severe.

Many of the symptoms of red veins and Rosacea  can be controlled with treatments such as IPL and  laser.

How it works....

IPL works by emitting filtered light which is readily absorbed by blood vessels heating them to point where they are destroyed. With Rosacea, we can shut down some of the larger, more noticeable vessels but for the majority, we aim to stimulate collagen within the skin to help strengthen the capillary walls resulting in Rosacea flare-ups being less often and less severe. During treatment a thin layer of chilled gel is applied to the skin to aid light absorption by the vessels. The light is then pulsed over the entire area to be treated.   During the treatment, protective eyewear will be worn. Following treatment, Rosacea can immediately look worse as we have put more heat into the skin but usually calms down within 48 hours.

Results from Rosacea Treatment

Our Rosacea treatment can reduce redness by up to 90%.

The treatment will also decrease itching, burning, dryness and swelling associated with Rosacea.

The treatment will make a significant difference to your life, there’s no longer a need to avoid social situations.

You will be left with clearer. more even skin.

As Rosacea is a poorly understood condition and treatment is about management of the condition, results can vary from person to person. Clients do usually see improvements in flare-ups of Rosacea within the first 3 treatments but maintenance treatments will be necessary to keep on top of the condition.

Afterwards....

Treatment is mildly uncomfortable but there is no need for anaesthesia and the procedure is actually quite quick.  Sensations vary but most people describe it as a very quick, hot pin prick. We provide plenty of cooling throughout and after the treatment to reduce any discomfort.

You will need to ensure you use a good sun protection cream after treatment. Use specific Rosacea homecare products as advised by the technician to further improve your skin.

Making dietary and lifestyle changes will enhance the results of the treatment.

Birthmarks

Embarrassed by a birthmark?

Does it affect your confidence?

Would you like to be rid of it?

Birthmarks are simply a discolouration of the skin that can have a variety of causes including an unusual grouping of blood vessels or a localised excess of pigment which gives skin its colour.

How it works....

Treatment involves using a specific light wave that is right for the specific colour and make-up of the birthmark.

Over a course of treatments, the laser breaks down the colour so that the mark fades and blends in with the surrounding skin, without leaving any scars.

What it involves....

The light applicator is placed on the skin and a short pulse of light is released. The applicator is moved to the neighbouring area and the process is repeated until the entire area is treated.

During treatment, protective eyewear will be provided.

Am I suitable ?

Most types of birthmarks are suitable for laser treatment but we do recommend that you first come into clinic for a consultation and assessment to discuss treatment options.

How does it feel ?

Treatment is mildly uncomfortable and a warm, tingling sensation not unlike sunburn is experienced afterwards.  The treated area may feel itchy but it is important not to scratch.

Pricing....

Best Results : 6 - 12 treatments

Treatment Time : 20 - 45 minutes

Recovery : Same day

Complications : Very low

Anaesthetic : Not required

Cost : From £65 per session
